My Fortune Cookie

So I go to one of my favorite Chinese restaurants and order the wonderful sweet & pungent chicken. Yum and I open my fortune cookie. It says: "You create your own stage. The audience is waiting." Great, what if I have nothing to say?

As actors we go through life somewhat befuddled, not to mention insecure. I have yet to meet an actor that is not insecure. Some drink, some take pills, some smoke pot. I meditate. I'm usually a wreck before I go onstage. But once that spotlight hits me, I'm fine. Go figure.

I have been in a funk lately. Can't write, can't think. I haven't been on an audition forever. My insecurity is getting the best of me. But I think that is natural when you go into a funk. The hard thing to do is to keep going. Keep training, keep auditioning, stay on top of your game. Because when things turn around and they always do, I must be prepared.

I am starting to walk more and get out more and be more personable. My best friend, Rebecca helps me. And so does the wine we drink when we get together. I need to lose weight cause I want to look good when I put on a bathing suit this Summer. And I will look good! I will, I will!

My sister, Linda sent me an email that she went to a Psychic reading and it was very revealing. She told me she is going to call me later tonite to tell me all about it. I must be in there too, somehow or she wouldn't be telling me about it. The last time we had that done, we were over at Pier 39 in San Francisco. This woman was right on about everything that was going on in my life. Curious!

I miss my friends back home, Jeannie, Vicky, Harold, Don, Chris. I don't really have any friends from high school that I still associate with. Who does? High school is always a crazy time. The high school that I attended is not even there anymore! They closed it up quite some time ago. I always wanted to go to Central Catholic High but I didn't have the annual tuition so had to go to our local Public school. Oh well, I still did pretty good and I am a good person today and that is what counts.

So, I create my own stage. I like that, it is very empowering. I know this, what you put out into the universe is what you get back. So I guess I better start putting out.

Marry the Pig for a Little Sausage

I was reading something today where a guy was asking the age old question, "Why marry the Cow when you can get the milk for free". Ha! And it reminded me of a friend of mine who shall remain nameless. She was with HIM for several months. She was his lover, his confidante, cook and maid. She oohed and ahhed over him for quite some time. When no engagement ring was forthcoming, she cried on my shoulder.

And I told her if she was doing all those things for HIM for free, why should he make an extra effort to give her more when she was expecting so little of him? In essence, why should she want to marry the Pig for a little sausage?

Guys are like fish. If you really want them, I mean, really want them then you have to throw them a line, give them a little taste of something sweet, and then pull back. I advised her to cut him off - go cold turkey! No more honey, no more laundry service, no more maid service. He was stunned at her reversal. She told him that without some type of equal commitment on his part, she was going to go her own separate way.

And you know what? The next time I saw her she had on a very expensive engagement ring. Guys are like fish. You have to throw them a line, give them a little taste of something sweet and then pull back. And reel 'em in. And she did.

I guess being the mother of two sons, I can kinda see things from their point of view. After all, if a gal is willing to put out so quickly, she must do that for all the guys. And really, guys are old fashioned. They want to go "where no man has gone before".

All this work for a little sausage. And in some cases, a very little sausage.

Attack of the 30 Ft Chola

I received a message from Kieron Estrada, director of Attack of the 30 Ft Chola. I will be shooting my scenes at the end of this month. I am so excited. I actually auditioned last year for the role of Rosalinda. Rosalinda is the mother of Rosie, an overweight girl who is trying to fit in with the gang of chola girls. They are bad asses and Rosie is a good girl who just wants to be accepted into a bad group.

Kieron just released a teaser of this feature film on You Tube. I will put the link and I hope it works. If not, then enter Attack of the 30 Ft Chola teaser on the search engine of You Tube and you can watch.

Another fun thing to watch is a video report of Joe Chacon who plays the character of Oscar in the film. He filmed a portion of working on the set of Attack. I enjoyed watching it too.

So many times we are working on the set and sometimes we cannot bring cameras to the set. It's nice to be able to document the behind the scenes moments. I worked twice on "Gigantic" for Teen Nickelodeon. It is a new show and premieres in April, 2010. I had a blast and everyone was so easygoing. Wish filming could be like this all the time.

I've been asked to audition lately for some local theater work. But I've done several projects already and I really want to concentrate on furthering my career in television and film. So, I am off to a good start with the pilot film, "Live from Earth; It's Gawd" and "Gigantic" and now "Attack of the 30 Ft Chola". Of course, I am still going out for commercial auditions.

To follow up from the blog yesterday, I did have a full body massage, facial, got a manicure and went out to dinner with family. It was a great day!

Can't wait to shoot my scenes. Be sure to catch the teaser on You Tube and do leave a comment. I will let you folks know more about the project as I know more.

Adios!

Happy Birthday to Me

I woke up with my 2 cats sleeping peacefully beside me. In fact, they were so close that I couldn't even roll over if I wanted to. But that was fine, they are my babes.

A hot cup of coffee and I mopped the floors and did some housework. Now it is time for me! Think I will drive down to La Jolla and take a walk by the beach. Love being around the ocean.

I hope no one is trying to phone me because I won't answer it. Not today. Today is for me. Besides, that is why they make voice mail.

I received some birthday greetings already today and that was really nice. And tonite there is a special dinner planned with family & friends.

Should I get my hair & nails done? Should I get my massage? Should I soak in the tub? Decisions, decisions.

Happy birthday to me, can't believe it's been this many years already. Where has the time gone? Was not in charge of the first years of my life but I am in charge of the latter years. And it's up to me to make it count.

(Raises glass of champagne) To making it count!

New Month - New Audition

web counter

Yeah, February is over and March is here. I've always liked March and I am starting the month with a notice I received today for an audition tomorrow. Way to start my month. It's a really good gig, pay is good but not great. And there are some travel opportunities. My agent would love me if I booked this job. It is at a good time and I can beat the traffic. I filled my car up today so I don't have to worry about that.

My birthday is on Friday too! I already know I am going to order lobster for my dinner. I'd love to get together with my friends. Andy wants me to get together with him this weekend. We shall see because it is supposed to rain again! I know we need it, though.

Other than that, not much else happening. I can't seem to write anything lately. My little head is spinning and my little body is going in many directions. Have to focus.

I feel so badly for that poor girl who was abducted from a park in Rancho Bernardo last week. I would frequently take the trails when I lived in nearby Poway. It is beautiful there and one can get a false sense of security. Unfortunately, she was running alone and did not have her cell phone with her. I pray that they find her alive and well. Sometimes young people jog and wear their headphones and don't pay attention to their surroundings. And there are bad people in this world! My heart goes out to her family and I will keep them in my prayers.

I heard that Andy had another audition last week and so did Sly! I love my actor friends! I cheer for them and I know they cheer for me too.

Safety always! And boo to people who take advantage of other people. There are so many characters in this business. I always check and double check people. I have passed on auditions that seemed shady. Be smart, pay attention and be professional. Be punctual and be careful, that is my motto.
